Invited by Southern Federal University, Russia, a delegation led by Zhou Faming, Vice-president of HUHST, paid a visit to SFU from Sep.25 to Sep.29 and received a warmly welcome.

During the visit, Zhou introduced the basic situation of HUHST and the rapid progress we made in recent years on transformation development and hoped that two universities can exchange and cooperate in depth in the areas of teaching and scientific research, teacher development and student exchange. During the discussion of teaching and scientific research , SFU specially arranged a meeting for our delegation with Professor and Dr. Alexander Soldatov, the director of Smart Materials International Research Center. With this meeting, Zhou  expressed the intention to send teachers and doctoral candidates in related majors to SFU for study and research on both sides. Soldatov nicely agreed to our requirements.

When the delegation visited Biological Science and Biotechnology School of SFU, the SFU leaders arranged a meeting for us with its teachers and students.At the meeting, the representatives of HUHST gave a comprehensive speech about Agricultural and Biotechnology School of HUHST. After speech, the representatives answered the questions raised by the teachers and students of SFU. We two universities communicate deeply with the issues of short-term visit, cooperative teaching and research while the delegation had a meeting with the leaders, professors, and doctoral candidates of Biological Science and Biotechnology School of SFU. And the two universities reached a consensus on these issues. The next day, accompanied by the leaders of Biological Science and Biotechnology School of SFU, the delegation also visited the botanical garden, plant physiology and ecological laboratory, school library and teaching sites of SFU. Finally, two universities signed the cooperation agreements (Academic and Cultural Cooperation Agreement between HUHST and SFU & Student Exchange Agreement between HUHST and SFU).

The visit was approved by the Education Department of Hunan Province and the Foreign Affairs Office of Hunan Provincial People’s Government.

Background:

The Southern Federal University of Russia is located in Rostov City which is famous for its Cossack culture and Taganrog City which is the hometown of Chekhov. It consists of four Russian special top universities, Rostov National University, Rostov National Institute of Architecture and Art, Rostov National Normal University and Taganrog  National Radio University. SFU is the Science Center of Southern area and the leading Research University in Russia which ranks fourth in Russian universities. SFU has 37 departments, more than 70 scientific research institutions and 2086 senior professional staff. It is the only member of the European High-Tech Research Financial Group university in Russia.
